The Alauzon canyon

It’s not even July yet and the thermometer is in the thirties here – a good time for us to re-acquaint ourselves with the local mini-canyon! It isn’t very big – but definitely big enough to have some fun and the water is always cool.

The canyon is part of the Menon river, which runs from a source near Le Poet-en-Percip down to Buis-les-Baronnies where it joins the Ouveze.

The Canyon consists of three mini-cascades, the top cascade makes for a fun slide – the second is steeper and falls into a deep basin which is a popular spot to do some jumping.

Bolt belays are in place at the top of each cascade and a few short lengths of rope are required.

We recommend wearing wetsuits as the water is always very chilled. Obviously, a familiarity with fast-flowing cold water and heights is required – and you will need to be able to climb a bit on slippery rocks. If the cascades are too much, you can cool off and have fun in the river above the cascades. Let us know if you plan to visit the canyon so we can give you the best advice.

Take care and have fun!
